The Birds are HERE!Goldfinches on Duncraft feeder

Hi Gang, we hope your backyards have been as active as ours this yGoldfinch on Duncraft feederear. One of our favorite birds are American Gold Finches. It is amazing how bright these guys are in the sunlight. A friend called recently stating she had not had a gold finch in several years. So off I go to see why. It didn't take long. You see Goldfinches as with other songbirds like fresh seeds. Her feeders were full. Full of old, moldy, and even sprouting thistle seeds. We took down the feeders, dumped the seeds, cleaned everything with soap and water, then filled them with fresh thistle seeds. Three days later she excitedly called to say her goldfinches were back. Remember, keeping all feeders clean and fresh means more and healthier birds.

We had a few exciting unexpected events.

First-a hawk has started frequenting our yard. Not everyday, but occasionally he lands on our wood fence and scouts the area. Needless to say, the birds scurry away in a hurry!

Second - I heard a thud on a window pane. There I found a female Goldfinch on her back with feet twitching. I brought her inside and she lay on my chest staring at me, never moving. After a while I placed her in a post mounted bluebird feeder only to see her flop on her back again. She was propped up in a box with thistle and fresh water. After two days, she began to walk and then run in her box, but no attepts to fly. Day three brought her lifting off my chest for a short flight and landing in the carpet. Two days later, she really escaped and flew around the house until I caught her. She was ready. My son and I took her outside. She sat for a minute on my finger, then flew to a crepe myrtle branch and began singing. Three other goldfinches landed near her and they all flew off together.

Third, we've had two doves nest in the same bush. One group has left and the other is being incubated now. Mockingbirds are nesting in another spot and we have several wren couples scouting everywhere.

We have some exciting product news as well. We have a new supplier and will be addingTwirl A squirrel Combo new products as time permits. We have added a pole and hanger page, some combo packages for Hummingbirds, Orioles, and Squirrel 36 icnh thistle feederproof feeders. A 36 inch thistle feeder - wow! Soon we will add two cameras, one video and one motion activated digital camera.

If you have squirrel problems - check out our "Twirl-A-Squirrel". Turn your tube feeder into a critter spinner or buy a ready to hang package. If metal platform feeders are for you - we now have Heritage Farms feeders and poles.

That's it for now. Happy Birding, and as always come back often and bring your friends.

Thanks

David
